Brother Peter Rogers

It is with sadness that we learn the news of the death of Br. Peter Rodgers, former General Definitor, and together we offer our condolences to our brothers of the Province of Ireland.

We recall the presence of Br. Peter who spent his life for the good of the Order and the Church, expending his energies for many years as a formator, mission secretary, provincial definitor, provincial minister, general definitor (elected at the 83rd General Chapter), and then upon his return to Ireland in 2012 as general secretary of the Religious Conference of Ireland. At the 2016 provincial chapter, he was again elected to the provincial council and appointed guardian of the Church Street friary, as well as chairing the Bow Street Day Care Center Council and the provincial finance committee.

We must remember the suffering that Br. Peter endured during these years and which he bore with a spirit of deep faith, with great dignity and serenity, knowing well that by welcoming the pain he suffered, he was given a means toward sanctification.

The General Minister, Br. Roberto Genuin, together with all the brothers of the Curia join the brothers of the Province of Ireland in expressing gratitude to God for giving us this brother and for the service he performed for the whole Order. Together we offer our prayers of suffrage as he goes to meet the Lord and we petition the Lord to grant that the memory of his witness may stimulate the journey of faith and spiritual growth of all those who have enjoyed his fraternal and priestly service.

We give thanks to the Lord for the life of Brother Peter and for all the good he accomplished in this world. We entrust his soul to the mercy of God, and we also entrust ourselves to his intercession.
