CECOC Goes East

Minsk (Belarus), 9 to 13 October 2017. For the first time the Capuchin Conference of Central-Eastern Europe (CECOC) met in the capital of Belarus. In this important place they elected a new President, Br. Tomasz Żak, the Provincial Minister of Krakow, and Vice President, Br. Lucian Iosif Dumea, Custos of Romania. On the agenda, in addition to the usual topics, the Ministers and Custodes sought to find a way to keep our presence in Hungary. The General Vicar of the Order, Br. Štefan Kožuh, was also at the meeting, and presented the most recent news from the General Curia as well as an analysis of the statistics of the Order. The local friars invited the participants in the meeting to visit the construction sites of our friaries and churches in Minsk and Smalyavichy. The meeting concluded with the feast of the patron of the Custody of Belarus, Blessed Honorat Koźmiński.

CENOC Meeting in Rome

Rome, October 26-28, 2017. The Capuchin Conference of Northwest Europe – CENOC – met during these days at the General Curia in Rome. At the meeting Br. Marinus Parzinger (PR Germany) and Br. Eric Bidot (PR France) were elected the new President and Vice President, respectively. As always, the friars shared their recent experience in their respective circumscriptions and discussed the challenges facing Northwest Europe. There was also a chance to meet with various friars in charge of different offices in the General Curia. The General Minister of the Order also met with the Conference, speaking on certain issues with a view toward the coming General Chapter. On the final day the friars traveled to Assisi and Spello and met with the Europe Project community, which has been living this new enterprise of the Order for a year now. The next meeting of the Conference will be held in Salzburg, Austria, from April 25-28, 2018.

CIMPCAP

The 141st Assembly of Italian Provincial Ministers

The 141st assembly of the Provincial Ministers of CIMPCAP (Conferenza Italiana dei Ministri Provinciali Cappuccini), currently composed of nineteen provincial ministers, was held at our International College ‘San Lorenzo da Brindisi’ from October 16 to 20, 2017. The President of the Conference is Br. Gianfranco Palmisani, Provincial Minister of the Roman Province, and the Secretary is Br. Ciro Polverino, from the Province of Naples. The main theme of this assembly was a study of the social and legal issues related to the abuse of minors and vulnerable adults. There were also presentations by religious and priests who work in communities that care for persons who have committed abuse.

On the afternoon of the 17 the meeting enjoyed a visit from the General Minister, who presented the topics for the next General Chapter. Br. Mauro indicated the priorities and hopes that will come with the celebration of the Chapter, which will be held from August 26 to September 15, 2018. Following the talk of the General Minister, the Provincial Ministers shared some ideas on proposals that the Italian Conference could present in view of the celebration of the General Chapter. Br. Raffaele Della Torre, General Councilor, presented information on the meeting of European post-novices and students planned for July 9 to 12, 2018.

The final two days were dedicated to the renewal of the secretaries and national secretariats which, within the Italian Provinces, take care of many important tasks of animation and communication. For this part of the event about forty-five friars, representing the heads of various provincial services, were present in the College.
