New Council for the EACC Conference

The Capuchin Conference of East Africa (EACC) held its most recent official meeting from July 28 – 29, 2023, at the San Padre Pio Conference Center in Pretoria, South Africa. During the first day of the meeting, the major superiors elected a new council: President (Br. Arnold Shirima - Kenya); Vice-President (Br. Joseph Mawedze - Zimbabwe); Councilor (Br. Donal Sweeney - South Africa).

In addition to the elections, the participants discussed the preparation of the Pan African Meeting (PANAF), which will be held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, most likely in early 2024. Discussions continued on ways to deal with the challenges of initial and ongoing formation taking place within the conference; on the preparation of the General Chapter of 2024 and on how to promote collaboration between the circumscriptions within the Conference.

The meeting concluded with a sharing among the major superiors of information on the current state of each circumscription, so that each of them becomes fully aware of the realities faced by the entire Conference.
